Position: Vice-Chair of the Board, YG Member
Current Term: Jun 2009 - Mar 2010
Place of Residence: Marsh Lake, YT
Biography:
I came to the Yukon with my Masters degree in Biology over 35 years ago with the Kluane National Park Reserve as the first A/Superintendent. I decided the Yukon would be my future home and so moved over to YTG and started the Terrritorial Park program by upgrading all the campgrounds to what can be seen today and by reserving 10 areas, some of which have become Territorial Parks: Herschel Island, Fishing Branch, Tombstone, Coal River Springs, Kusawa Lake. This position provided me with the opportunity to visit all areas in the Yukon, including most lakes, rivers, valleys and mountain ranges. After another 25+ years of government work with 5 different departments (Renewable Resources, Land Claims Secretariat, Community & transportation, Environment and Energy, Mines & Resources) my wife and I built our dream retirement home five years ago on Marsh Lake where sometimes we can tie our boat to the front door. Along the way I managed to build about 25 houses in the Yukon and spent many, many pleasurable days on the land in SE Yukon, particularly Kusawa Lake, hunting, fishing and boating.
Vision Statement:
I like to look at the future, big-picture scenarios and I believe the Board can be the most effective by developing a common vision of what we as Yukoners want to see for the future of our fish and wildlife resources . . . and then encouraging all governments to work towards that goal together.
